Subject: Call to Participate: Development of International Food and Beverage Management Competency Standard

Dear Colleagues,

The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) has retained our
services for developing an international competency standard for Food
and Beverage Management. The objective of this project is to analyze
the competency standards for Food and Beverage Management from various
sources and to integrate that information into an International
Competency Standard. The application of International Competency
Standard (ICS) for training and certification can improve learners and
workers' global mobility and ultimately, contribute to ease chronic
skill shortages.

The research and development work will be carried out under the
governance of three international committees:

1.    Global Advisory Committee (to provide leadership for the
development of the ICS)
2.    International Industry Standard Development Committee (to provide
guidance for the development of the ICS)
3.    International Industry Validation Committee (to validate various
draft versions of the ICS)

The project will commence in July, 2011 and will be completed by
September, 2012. It will include the following key development
activities:
1. Situation Analysis (identification of stakeholder needs, scope of
the occupation, profile of job incumbents, job environment and working
conditions, and future trends that may affect the occupation)
2. Norm Referencing (research into existing international policies,
procedures and practices to inform the development of competency
standards)
3. Competency Standards Development (job analysis involving a high
level of international industry engagement)
4. Validation of Competency Standards (broad distribution of
competency standards for input and feedback to declare that the
standards are relevant, accurate, and comprehensive)

Several organizations have already expressed an interest to
participate in the Global Advisory Committee. We are in the process of
identifying international partners who are interested to contribute to
(1) The International Industry Standard Development Committee; and (2)
the International Industry Validation Committee. If you are interested
to participate in one of these committees kindly send us an e-mail
message to indicate your affiliation with the Food and Beverage
Management sector and on which committee you wish to participate:

Roles of the International Industry Standard Development Committee:

• Provide input into the Situation Analysis and norm referencing
• Verify core competencies, skills, knowledge and abilities
• Review and provide feedback for competency matrix
• Review and provide feedback for improving draft NOS
• Participate in surveys, interviews, and iterative standards review
activities

Roles of the International Industry Validation Committee:

Review and validate draft competency standard
Provide feedback for improving competency standard

We will also greatly appreciate if you could recommend Food and
Beverage Management Competency Standards that we should review for
developing the ICS.

Thanking you in anticipation and looking forward to the opportunity of
working in collaboration with you in this important endeavour.

Best regards,
