Subject: VOCEDplus - International database for vocational education and training (VET) research

Dear e-forum members,

VOCEDplus has just been released by the National Centre for Vocational
Education Research (NCVER). Previously known as VOCED, it was set up in
1989 to provide free access to English language bibliographic records of
Australian and international research related to vocational education and
training (VET). In response to the emerging concept of an integrated
tertiary education sector, the new VOCEDplus website now covers research on
wider tertiary education issues as well as VET. Its particular focus is
research and statistics as it relates to education for work and beyond.

VOCEDplus includes entries for:
* research reports journals and journal articles
* books and book chapters
* conference proceedings and papers
* working/discussion/occasional papers
* policy documents
* survey results
* published statistics
* podcasts
* theses

VOCEDplus uses the following sources of information:
* key Australian and international tertiary education journals
* key organisations worldwide which produce publications about tertiary
education (including government bodies, national and international agencies
and networks, research centres, universities and commercial publishers)
* direct submissions from users of the database

As well as expanding its content, VOCEDplus has also undergone a major
rebuild and facelift. New features and enhancements include:
* a digital repository component making more fulltext documents available
online
* searching of both the bibliographic record and within the full text of
the document if the full text is in the repository
* facets to further refine search results
* social networking applications to share search results
* the ability to set up customised RSS feeds from searches
* QR codes to capture content on mobile devices
* citation tool to make referencing easy (in the process of being
developed)

The number of entries to VOCEDplus continues to increase by over 2,000
each year and is now at 44,000. In its first month, the new site has had
17,970 visits from 149 countries, 55,765 page views and 29,209 searches.

VOCEDplus is produced by NCVER, an Australian organisation responsible for
collecting, managing, analysing, evaluating and communicating research and
statistics about tertiary education and training nationally. The database
receives funding assistance from the Australian Department of Education,
Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and is endorsed by UNESCO.
