I agree also that the integration of veterans must take into account the
value of their training, both in terms of personal skills such as
leadership and discipline, and in the vocational skills they acquire in
their military service.

In Canada, there is recognition of the military trades training and
efforts to facilitate veterans' transition to civilian careers has been
made through civilian certification authorities working with military
training bodies.

Veterans Affairs Canada also delivers other services through the Veterans
Charter. A more recent announcement by Veterans Affairs Canada is the
Helmets to Hardhats initiative, which will match veterans with employment
and apprenticeship opportunities in the construction industry.  This is
modelled on the program that exists currently in the US.
