So often we think of poverty as the absence of life's bare necessities: food, shelter, health. And don't get me wrong: these essentials are incredibly important. But every once in awhile, it feels good to able to provide someone with not just something to get them through the day, but to also help them smile. KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to play, has created a project to do just that: http://www.causes.com/campaigns/173931?m=6584a9cb&causes_ref=uhura_email Here's the deal: In April, the town of Phil Campbell, Alabama was torn apart by tornadoes. 28 people died, including a few teachers at Phil Campbell elementary. The school's playground - the town's ONLY playground - was also destroyed, adding insult to tragedy. The kids in Phil Campbell would love to just be "kids" again, and a new playground would help them heal. KaBOOM! needs to raise $16,200 in order to make it happen.
