Good Day, Teeluck Bhuwanee, and All!
While this topic is nominally related to TVET, it seems to me that it is
more a matter for academics working in the area of Public Policy.
> The Master of Arts in Public Policy and Public Administration (MPPPA)
at Concordia University is a two-year innovative program that blends
scholarly and vocational values. Housed in the Political Science
Department, the MPPPA focuses Canadian and comparative public policy and
administration with an emphasis on the on the nexus of the study of
politics and public policy/public administration.
I have been told by a recent graduate of this program that the 600 level
course on the Aging Demographic is outstanding.
http://politicalscience.concordia.ca/graduate/mapppa/
For my part, I believe that TVET focussed on Technical aspects will best
serve to inform our recommendations to those that draft Public Policy.
I just had a conversation regarding the use of improved fly-wheel
technology as a means to significantly reduce energy consumption at mine
sites. This conversation is ongoing, between Tradespeople (Mechanics and
Electricians), Engineers, Equipment Operators, and myself. It was
stimulated by a recent article in the Economist: Reinventing the wheel
http://www.economist.com/node/21540386
It appears likely that by 2020 that improved flywheel technology will
likely be widespread in vehicles. This would impact related occupational
training requirements. I believe this would also influence Public Policy
regarding Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts, globally.
Similarly, innovations in Housing Design and Construction affect
Occupational Training Requirements as well as Energy Consumption.
Consider the Equilibrium House:
> EQuilibrium™ is a national Sustainable Housing Demonstration
initiative, led by CMHC, that brings the private and public sectors
together to develop homes that combine resource- and energy-efficient
technologies with renewable energy technologies in order to reduce their
environmental impact.

The house I live in is one of the first R2000 Houses, built in 1981. It
contains what appears to be one of the prototypes for a Heat Recovery
Ventilation System, which is now a requirement in all new homes in Canada.
A number of the energy efficiency details still exceed those of new houses,
and a recent energy audit proved that it is still superior to the average
house in this regard. The innovations in technology used in the R2000
houses have influenced Public Policy, as is manifest by present Regulations
and Codes.
What other innovations in Technology are occurring that TVET needs to
respond to by preparing workers appropriately for labour market changes?
Yours,
Damian
