EAPRIL 2011 conference: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Nijmegen, The Netherlands from the 23rd until the 25th of November 2011

CONFERENCE THEME:
"Balancing workplace learning and practitioner research
across professional fields"

CONFERENCE WEBSITE:
http://www.eapril.org/EAPRIL2011

EAPRIL is unique by bringing together those interested in the crossroads
between research and practice and between professional learning and
education. For the upcoming EAPRIL conference we invite researchers and
practitioners who can inspire colleagues, are active in the context of
workplace learning and/or would like to share their ideas and experiences
with regard to practice-based research.

Contributions:

'Interaction' is a keyword at the EAPRIL Conference. To stimulate this
interaction the EAPRIL conference introduces new interactive presentation
formats.

•    Present and Discuss Session (45 minutes)
This is an oral session, based on a written paper or other medium. The
participant presents the highlights of the inquiry in no more than 15-20
minutes, which is followed by a 25-30 minutes discussion. This can also be
a presentation of a critique on current educational practice and/or
research. Try to make the session interactive and make sure that
participants are involved in the discussion.

•    Thematic Roundtable (90 minutes)
In a thematic roundtable 3 to 6 contributions from different institutes
address the same issue or theme from different perspectives. A thematic
roundtable is highly interactive. One or two general statements regarding
the theme form the basis for discussion.

•    Workshop (90 minutes)
This format provides a highly interactive, collaborative session that
shows the application of the outcomes of a research project. It can, for
instance, demonstrate a tool that has been developed through the research,
a new teaching method that emerged as a result of the project, an
illustration of collaborative inquiry strategies used in the research that
proved effective - such as a demonstration of an innovative way to collect
information or to analyse information. Workshops should provide a hands-on
experience that involves the conference participants in in-depth active
learning.

•    Practice and Research Dialogue Session (90 minutes)
A practitioner together with a researcher can submit a proposal. First the
practitioner presents a case from the practice, the researcher links the
case to the theory. Afterwards a discussion is held about the
tension/crossover between theory and practice. It is important that the
session is highly interactive and that the participants are involved in the
discussion.

•    Creative Session (45 minutes)
In this type of contribution, participants are invited to discuss a theme
or research question from an out-of-the-box perspective. The proposal
should include a format that is creative and provoking. Examples are a
brainstorming, associating, panel discussion, role play, debating, voting
on statements, systemic approaches,...

•    Poster
Poster presenters are asked to hang up their poster on a display at a
location where they are well visible to all the participants. During the
lunchtime of the second conference day the poster presenters will stand at
their poster to give extra oral information to interested participants.
The poster communicates your research and synthesizes your main ideas and
research directions. The posters are displayed on poster boards (size: 1,75
m high and 1,15 wide), usually with brief pieces of text, intermixed with
tables, graphs, pictures, etc.

Important dates:

• Submission deadline: Wednesday 14 September 2011
• Review results: before Monday 10 October 2011
• Early bird registration deadline: Wednesday 19 October 2011
• Registration deadline (to be included in the conference programme):

Please be advised that the conference language will be English
for the submissions and for the presentations.
