Hi Guillermo Ferna,

There is a nature reserve in India that is home to 404 Asian elephants. Just four of them are males. Only male Asian elephants have tusks. The rest of the males who should call this reserve home were killed for their ivory. End demand for elephant ivory. Permanently ban any international sale of ivory »

The ivory trade was originally banned by a UN treaty more than 20 years ago. But the strictness of the ban has eroded over the decades. Twice now, elephants "endangered" status has been down-listed so countries can export their ivory stockpiles. Every time we chip away at elephants' protection, poachers kill more elephants.

Sadly, many countries with elephant ranges don't even have the basic resources to meet the reporting requirements of the treaty, let alone the funding and government support to stop poachers or halt ivory trade on the black market.

This much is clear: Any legal ivory trade leads to illegally killed elephants. Diminished elephant populations -- already hit by habitat loss -- can't withstand it. Nothing short of a full, permanent ban will save elephants.

Tell European Union leaders to support restoring the blanket ban on international ivory trade »

Thanks for taking action!
