"Crowdsourcing – linking up to reach Education for All"

Dear members,

The UNESCO section Policy Advice & ICT (PAD), in partnership with Nokia
and the Pearson Foundation, launched on 10 October the Education for All
(EFA) Crowdsourcing Challenge, an eight-month initiative - with prizes - to
elicit suggestions on how mobile communication can help achieve EFA goals.
The first month is devoted to finding solutions on how mobile communication
can help achieve literacy. Prizes will be awarded monthly to the best
ideas, chosen by a panel of judges. Promising projects will be developed
and implemented by Nokia or other participants after the challenge ends, on
31 May 2012.

Crowdsourcing uses group collaboration to achieve a specific goal.
Participants can post an idea via an online platform hosted by Nokia and
then the other participants in the community can vote on whether they like
the idea as well as provide their feedback/solutions. A unique element of
the crowdsourcing concept is the ability to connect people with needs or
ideas with partners who can address those needs or realize those visions.

We would like to request your assistance to please use your communication
networks to help us disseminate information on this Challenge. We would
like to encourage as many people as possible to participate in this new
crowdsourcing initiative at UNESCO. The target audience consists primarily
of education experts, teachers, parents, students and software developers .
