Dear Causes Members, As we mark the first anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, we would like to say thank you.  Your continued support of The Nature Conservancy's restoration efforts has been so important over the last year - see what your support has helped make possible. Thanks to your continuing commitment to act on behalf of the Gulf we've expanded and accelerated our efforts this year to protect and restore the ecological and economic infrastructure of the Gulf. See the positive impact made by volunteers back in January at Helen Wood Park near Mobile, Alabama, where they turned mountains of oysters into miles of reef. Not familiar with why oyster reefs are so important? Watch this short video on why oyster reefs matter so much. The Nature Conservancy has been doing projects like this since long before the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill brought the need for Gulf of Mexico restoration to the world's attention in such a tragic way. It is important to note that the Gulf still faces many challenges beyond cleaning up the oil. And while we all felt hopeless as we watched the tragedy unfold one year ago, we now have an opportunity to make a permanent difference in the future of the Gulf. We hope you will stay involved over the next months as we strive to ensure that the people and nature of the Gulf of Mexico are made whole again.
